Minority Affairs

The Minority Affairs Commission represents students traditionally underserved by the university community, including, but not limited to, students of various ethnicities and nationalities, non-traditional students, and students with disabilities. The Commission assists minority students who may have grievances with the university; serves as a liaison with offices, departments, committees and organizations involved with the concerns of minority students; gathers and publicizes information of importance to minority students and minority student organizations; informs students of relevant legislation; and promotes cultural awareness and increases multicultural programs available to the student population.
In the past our commission has planned discussions for non-traditional students, held forums on the campus climate toward individuals with disabilities and Islamophobia, organized events for Diversity Awareness Week, and sponsored resolutions calling for the reconvening of the President’s Advisory Committee on Disabilities. These are just a few samples of the many things our commission has been involved in the past year. If you have concerns you would like us to address or project ideas for the future, we welcome your feedback.
Please feel free to contact me or anyone else on the commission if you have any questions or concerns. If our commission is unable to help you, we will do our best to put you in contact with someone who is able. You can also stop by our office, Baker 305, or attend our “Student Speak Out” Wednesday at 7:15pm in Walter 235.
